HOW IT ALL STARTED!

It all started during the first great Lockdown of 2020. Coming from an engineering background, I have always been fascinated by 3D printed technology that is now becoming more readily available to the general public. So I felt the time was right, when we were all stuck at home for weeks on end, to get one and have a dabble. 

I bought one and got it set up and started printing. Initially things that were just pointless and really had no use whatsoever.

I kept printing useless things for a couple of months as I had no idea how to design anything myself and then left it for a few months to collect dust. It must have been one of those fad ideas that we have all had. Fast forward to January 2021 and my eldest son asked for a scorpion totally out of the blue. Random, but okay, as long as he paid for it. Then, as I had been a fish keeper for 30 plus years, I fancied a new challenge and thought I would like to keep Tree Frogs. I did a load of research and decided that I wanted to keep the beautiful Red Eyed Tree Frogs.

So it's now February 2021 and I had a full bioactive setup in a 45 x 45 x 60 Exo Terra Terrarium and managed to get some beautiful tree frogs, but...there was one thing that really annoyed me, where was I going to mount my fancy new digital thermostat. At this point I thought I would have a go at designing something. 

This was a big learning curve as I had only really done 2D stuff back in my engineering days. It took me a few attempts, but I managed to design and print a 3D holder for my thermostat that slid into the grooves of the Exo Terra canopy I had. Well, as you can imagine, I was made up with this and was eager to share on the Tree Frogs UK Facebook group. Everyone loved it and started asking if I could do this, or that, for their beloved tree frogs.

The one thing I was asked for, was some sort of hide that could be mounted high up in the tanks. This challenge increased my design skills and I designed the very first Amphibipod, (I would like to thank Charlotte for this name, which has now become the brand). 

I was then asked If I could do some sort of ledge for the frogs to perch and sleep on. 

Initially I designed a very basic ledge (and I mean basic), but it worked and everyone loved them. 

I then approached the crested gecko community to see if they would be interested in my products. It was a big yes, but only if they were magnetic. After many weeks of testing lots of different magnets, I finally found something that would do the trick.

It was a huge hit in the crested gecko community and this is basically the story of Amphibipod, the business!

My design skills have improved and I remain open to any suggestions for novel products. As an animal keeper myself, I understand how keepers want the best for their pets and will always strive to supply a lasting product that you will love forever.
